Claims that you can live and hope on is based the words of Jesus’ reply to His disciple called Thomas:

“Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”. Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”” (John 14:1-6, NIV)1.

In other words, “Without the way, there is no going; without the truth, there is no knowing; without the life, there is no living”. That is, without Christ, there is no way, there is no truth and no life.

This is also the recipe for the greatest tragedy ever! Which one is this you may wonder? To stand before God for judgment, only to finally discover that you had based your life and hope on someone or something other than Jesus Christ.

The Way

Prophet Isaiah revealed that, “like sheep, we have gone astray, everyone has turned to his own way” (Isaiah 53:4-6) – the way of sin (Psalm 1:1, Proverbs 1:11-14 and Romans 1). Are you on your own way?

Be troubled no more. Jesus Christ came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:1-10). The wonderful, comforting words spoken by Jesus in John 14:1-6 are a summary of what He was, what He came to say, and what He came to do.

The Truth

Jesus also claimed that He is the truth. Men, in addition to being lost, are stumbling because they do not seek and embrace the truth. Yet Jesus Christ is the embodiment and representation of truth (John 1:1-18, 20:31). This is the truth that He came to reveal.

This is the claim that has a command to it – to believe: Believing is the only way to eternal life

The Life

Jesus Christ further claimed that He had come to give life in a world full of death. That He had brought a newness of life (John 3:1-21) and spiritual life too (John 11:25-26, 10:10). And true to His claim, He gave His life on the Cross.

He now “stands at the door and knocks”, for, “anyone who will hear His voice and open the door. He will come in and eat with you, and you with Him” (Revelation 3:20).

Men have no fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom
