Discovering Your Destiny

Are you discovering your destiny? Or better yet, have you discovered your destiny? Many people, especially Christians (believers) are living purposelessly because they are yet to discover their individual destinies (destinations). That is, many people are not living according to their destinies. It is therefore important for you to discover your destiny and thereafter live according to the same.

Luke 22:24-30 NIV

24 A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. 25 Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. 26 But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. 27 For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. 28 You are those who have stood by me in my trials. 29 And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, 30 so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

The Desire for Greatness

The disciples were arguing about who among them was the greatest to take up the place of Jesus when His ministry came to an end. At the time, Jesus was the leader of a mega ministry.

Similarly, we fight others in our circles to be in charge. This is because of the (human) need for greatness (significance). However, each and every one of us has his/her own unique domain (Genesis 1:26-28).

Truths About Your Destiny

God created you for so much more than what you are currently engaged in or occupied with, that is, job or school respectively. He further bestowed (conferred or granted) a kingdom (arena or realm or domain) on you [verse 29] the moment you got born again (John 3:1-21 and 2 Corinthians 5:17). In other words, God has a unique destiny (mandate or assignment) for you. And this destiny is:

  1. Right there with you

Your destiny is right within you – It was deposited within you. That is, it is predetermined (Jeremiah 29:11). And, despite your past, God can (will) renew you.

  1. Specific

Your destiny is right without you – It is your kingdom (domain or zone). If you were a fish (or bird), your domain would be water (or air).

  1. Discover-able and Develop-able

The words discover and develop are verbs – that is, active or doing words. Therefore, your private space is for discovering your destiny while your public space is for manifesting your destiny to the fullest [verses 29-30].

Questions To Help You Discover Your Destiny
  1. Is it for God’s glory?

In Genesis 50:20, God’d intention was for salvation; while in Romans 9:17, Pharaoh was created for God’s glory.

Note: It is not a job – A job is meant to support your physical needs.

  1. Is there a burden?

Nehemiah had a burden for his city [Nehemiah 1:1-4]. Therefore, your destiny will be birthed from your burden.

  1. Is there an irritation (problem)?

Destiny is discovered by serving [verses 29, 27]. Thus, when you encounter an irritation in your space, that is an opportunity to serve. And by so doing, you will discover your destiny in the process.
