”"But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.
Jeremiah 17:7New International Version (NIV)
Jeremiah 17:7 ~ Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD
“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord“, stated Jeremiah (Jeremiah 17:7). A statement in which Prophet Jeremiah revealed that the man who trusts and hopes in the Lord, is a blessed (happy) man. That is, blessedness (happiness) is only available in the Lord, and it comes by trusting in Him.
But prophet Jeremiah didn’t start on a good footing. More often than not, he felt more cursed than blessed. He didn’t want to be God’s prophet in the first place, protesting that he was too young and too inarticulate (Jeremiah 1:5-8).
For his lifetime, Jeremiah had struggled with God’s call. He had even accused God of overpowering him (Jeremiah 20:7). Yet God continued to call him and use him.
He was with him. Twice Jeremiah speaks of his sense of God’s abiding presence (Jeremiah 15:20, 20:11).
This is because God’s calling (choosing) of a man is independent of him and his issues. Otherwise, there would be no one to be called and used by God. Don’t we all have issues?
Therefore, Jeremiah exhorts you and me to put our trust in the Lord. He too trusted in the Lord. And he was blessed.
Trusting in the Lord is not a denial of your situation. Instead, it is relying on Him to work out things (issues) on your behalf according to His Word. It is the confidence that He is able to and will work out things for your good.
The blessing of God anchors you so deeply in faith that you are able to weather the storms of life. Remember, we are not to lean on our own understanding, but in all our ways, we are to acknowledge God, and He shall direct our paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Prayer/Blessing
Lord, help me to fully trust in You. I pray this in Jesus Christ’s Name, Amen.
Therefore, trust in the Lord and you will be blessed.
