“Prayer for a Sign from God” is an exploration of how God answers the prayers of men who ask Him to confirm their chosen signs. These signs are usually a way of being assured of being in God’s will. And also be assured of success in their undertakings.
Asking God to confirm a sign to you is not a show of lack of faith. It is a show of the desire to be and stay in God’s will.
You too can therefore ask God to confirm a sign, and He will do so. And that’s what I’ll be exploring in this post.
”10 Then the servant took ten of his master's camels and departed, taking all sorts of choice gifts from his master; and he arose and went to Mesopotamia[a] to the city of Nahor. 11 And he made the camels kneel down outside the city by the well of water at the time of evening, the time when women go out to draw water. 12 And he said, “O Lord, God of my master Abraham, please grant me success today and show steadfast love to my master Abraham. 13 Behold, I am standing by the spring of water, and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water. 14 Let the young woman to whom I shall say, ‘Please let down your jar that I may drink,’ and who shall say, ‘Drink, and I will water your camels’—let her be the one whom you have appointed for your servant Isaac. By this I shall know that you have shown steadfast love to my master.”
Genesis 24:10-14English Standard Version (ESV)
Genesis 24:10-14 is part of a larger story where Abraham had sent his most trusted servant to get a wife for his son Isaac from his homeland, Mesopotamia. Therefore, in these verses, you can clearly observe that the servant sets off and arrives in Mesopotamia.
Upon his arrival outside the city in the evening, he positioned himself at the well. This is because this was the time when women would go to draw water from the well.
He also prayed to God to grant him and his master success by confirming the sign he specified to Him. Therefore, as the city’s women came to draw water, he asked for drinking water from them. And the woman who offered to water his camels was the one who met the specifications of his sign.
Prayer for a Sign from God
Therefore, when you purpose to pray for a sign from God, you will need to first specify the sign that you want God to confirm to you. Remember, prayers are meant to be specific.
Therefore, you’ll need to specify the sign to God. And most often than not, the sign you will choose will be drawn from your immediate environment. Meaning that it could be anything from clothing to the actions of those in your space.
This simply means that you will be on location (in position). That is you will be in the right place at the right time. Positioning is very important.
Thereafter, God answers your prayer depending on the specifications of your sign. He confirms or fails to confirm your sign. Meaning that when He confirms, you will know that He is with you, and you in His will. Therefore, you will experience success in whatever you are doing.
When He fails to confirm, you will know that God is not in whatever you are doing. Meaning that failure will be imminent.
