Restoration is what should follow after discipline. Therefore, the prayer for restoration is what should follow after God’s discipline.
”in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, perceived in the books the number of years that, according to the word of the Lord to Jeremiah the prophet, must pass before the end of the desolations of Jerusalem, namely, seventy years.
3 Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.
Daniel 9:2-3English Standard Version (ESV)
God’s discipline is not a bad thing. It is not like God is against His own. He does it to correct you.
The Bible reveals that God disciplines the one He loves (Proverbs 3:12 and Hebrews 12:6). Because He is the Father, and you are the son. And discipline is an expression of love.
As a parent, when your child does something wrong, then it is your responsibility to punish your child. You do not punish your child because you hate them and want to see them suffer. Most parents punish their children for their own good.
Similarly, God punishes you so that you do not lose your way to His destiny for you. So that you can be adequately prepared for His blessings and purpose.
Prayer for Restoration after God’s Discipline
Therefore, God is keen on restoration after discipline. It is His process of getting us back on track.
Our model Daniel responds to God’s discipline by prayer. He prays for Israel by confessing their sin and pleading for mercy from God.
He doesn’t take their sins lightly. And this is how as an intercessor you ought to take sin. Sin should be taken seriously.
Daniel also humbles himself before God. He breaks himself before God.
Thereafter, he appeals to God’s mercy. The antidote for sin and its effects is God’s mercy (Proverbs 28:2).
Therefore, the prayer for restoration comprises praising God, confessing sin to Him, and appealing for His mercy. It is pleading with God to turn away from His anger. Asking Him to remember His promises concerning you.
