and David inquired of the Lord, “Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them?” “Pursue them,” he answered. “You will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue.”

Inquiring of the Lord

1 Samuel 30:8 shows us that despite David being distressed (or under immense pressure), he inquired of the Lord. He took the step of seeking the Lord. And this is what distinguished David from his men.

Let me ask: What would you have done if you had come with your men to what you call home only to find it burned down and everyone was taken captive? As if this wasn’t enough, your men then start to talk about stoning you.

In other words, put yourself in David’s shoes. Questioned and doubted, David became a scapegoat for all that was evil, unjust, and wicked in the world that he shared with his men. What a tricky place to be!

This is the very situation that David found himself in. But he strengthened himself in the Lord and asked the priest to take to him the ephod. Once the ephod was taken to him, he inquired of the Lord whether he could pursue the raiders. And the Lord answered in the affirmative.

Maybe it’s the pressure of the new year and the resolutions thereof; the losses of 2020 or the past year; or the goals that lie ahead like settling down, starting a business, or whatever. But whatever it is, have you taken time to inquire of the Lord? So that He can affirm or dispute?

During times of great crises, David would turn to the Lord for wisdom and help. He knew that these things came from God only.

Therefore, you can be assured that as you inquire from God on what to do, everything that has been stolen by the enemy, you will recover. Every situation that looks like a defeat will be turned into a victory in Jesus’ name. Jesus will wipe off your tears.

Prayer/Blessing

Lord, I ask for Your word concerning my situation today. I pray to recover the things, material and immaterial, that the enemy has stolen from me. May Your Name be glorified in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Take time today to seek the Lord’s direction/plan for you by inquiring of Him and silently waiting for His answer regarding your inquiry.
