”3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

The God of All Comfort
In 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, Paul exhorts us to “Praise God because He is the God of all comfort”. This is because God comforts us in all our troubles. And this doesn’t necessarily mean that He will remove the affliction.
Remember, the world is full of troubles. But as Paul says, God is able to comfort us in all of them. He is able to sustain us through them all by His grace. We will not be alone in the afflictions of life.
Therefore, any form of trouble qualifies you as a candidate for God’s compassion (mercies – Hebrews 4:16) and comfort. He may not take away the difficulty or problem, but He will be with you in the trouble. He has also assured us that He will never leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). After all, He is Emmanuel – God with us.
So don’t give discomfort space in your life. Take it to the God of all comfort. He will comfort you and take care of the source of your discomfort.
And once God has comforted you, it is your responsibility to comfort those who are troubled. It will be your turn to be The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37). Moreso, this will be your thanksgiving for being comforted.
Remember, you are the medium for God’s grace. You were created by Him for His good work in the lives of others.
Prayer/Blessing
Lord God, thank You for comforting me when I was discomforted. I am confident that you will comfort me in the discomforts that will come. Help me to comfort others. Amen.
May you praise God for being the God of all comfort in your life.
