”Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.

2 Corinthians 3:5 Devotional (Daily Bible Verse)
Competence comes from God
In 2 Corinthians 3:5, Apostle Paul testified to the believers in Corinth, that their “competence came from God“. God made them competent because they were stewards of His gospel to the Gentiles.
Therefore, as Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians about his apostolic ministry, he revealed (to them) and taught them that the abnormal competence that he and his co-workers had was from God. In other words, their sufficiency was from and of God.
Without God’s sufficiency, they were not competent and they could do the work of the gospel. They didn’t operate on any of their own competencies. But only on the abilities made available by God. Their ministry and ministrations required God’s sufficiency.
In Galatians 6:3, Paul advised that “we should not think of ourselves as something that we are not, as this is deception”. For the world sells to us philosophies like “God helps those who help themselves” and “You can do it!”.
But when life happens, we sadly discover that we’re ill-equipped (helpless). And most often than not, we find ourselves progressing to hopelessness.
That’s why I want to let you know that we’ve got a God, and a Father, who is able to make you and me sufficient for the life and assignment ahead. Because we will not always have control over the many circumstances of our lives and assignments.
Therefore, 2 Corinthians 3:5 is a reminder to you that our adequacy/equipping is of God. For God equips/qualifies those that He calls/chooses. This is the key that breaks limits and delivers success in our God-ordained assignments.
Prayer
Lord God, I humble myself before You even as I ask that my sufficiency be of You. May You multiply Your grace to me according to 2 Peter 1:2, that my results may be traced back to Your sufficiency. Amen.
