”You, LORD, are my lamp; the LORD turns my darkness into light.
2 Samuel 22:29New International Version (NIV)
2 Samuel 22:29 Devotional
The Lord is my Lamp
2 Samuel 22:29 states that the Lord is your Lamp. And this is because He is the only One that is able to turn our darkness into light.
When David wrote these words, the Lord had just delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and the hand of Saul (2 Samuel 22:1). It’s, therefore, no wonder that David used darkness to represent his experience of prolonged years of persecution, loneliness, false accusation, and suffering mostly in the wilderness.
However, we all know that God sustained him, delivered him from all his enemies, and gave him an eternal place (memory) in the genealogy of Christ. God gave David a reason to praise Him. And that is why this is a song of praise.
How God turns darkness into light
Remember, David used the term darkness to represent suffering. And suffering has been known to make us struggle big time. Because when we are in darkness, we normally doubt God’s destiny, goodness, and favor towards us. We actually struggle to process and accept our sufferings because we wonder why God has allowed such in our lives.
Consequently, I want to encourage you that God is your Lamp. He will light (illuminate) your path. And you will be able to navigate yourself through the darkness (Exodus 13:21).
In fact, darkness cannot overcome God the Light (John 1:5). With Him as your Lamp, you will be an overcomer.
Prayer
Lord, You are my Light. I therefore exalt and thank You for being my Light.
Without You as my Light, I would not be able to navigate through the darkness. But thanks to You, darkness cannot overwhelm or overcome me.
God my Lamp, I want you to light my way. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
Blessing
May the Lord turn your darkness into light. Amen.
