”Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands.

Trust and Obey God
Psalm 78:7 is all about how every generation has to have a living faith. And the way they can have this kind of faith is when it is passed on to them as they are told and shown what they need to know about God.
Therefore, the first purpose of passing on your faith to the next generation (children) is for the same to trust in God. The next generation has to learn to put their trust (hope) in God.
As a parent, you need to note that ‘faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ’ (Romans 10:17). Therefore, you must begin by telling your children what God has done in the past.
Your child/children must begin by knowing what God has done in the past. That is, our testimonies about God’s faithfulness should lead our children to trust in God.
The second purpose of transferring your faith to the next generation is for them to obey God. This means that they should end up being ‘doers of the word, not only hearers’ (James 1:22). And the best way to teach the next generation is by practicing what you teach them.
Prayer
Lord, I pray that my children may trust in and obey You! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
