The Promise and Gift of Peace
John 14:27, which I have themed “The Promise and Gift of Peace“, depicts God as a God of and Giver of Peace. This is why He is also known as Jehovah Shalom. That is the God of peace.
Similarly, Jesus Christ is also known as the Prince of Peace. He too is a Giver of peace. And according to John 14:27, He not only left us with peace, but He also gave you and me His perfect peace.
Therefore, it is God’s plan and purpose that you experience peace (Isaiah 26:3). In particular, He calls all believers to live in peace amongst themselves (Colossians 3:15) and with all (Romans 12:18).
He also urges you and me to live in the reality of inner peace. This is a life of freedom from anxiety, and such peace-robbing thoughts. And the way to experience this is through “prayers and supplication with thanksgiving” concerning the troubles that we may face from time to time (Philippians 4:6).
However, the primary peace that you need to experience is peace with God. That is, objective peace (Romans 5:1). Thereafter, the secondary peace that you need to experience is peace within and with oneself. That is subjective peace.
A peaceful heart leads to good health (Proverbs 14:30). And the opposite is true. That is, a lack of peace causes stress which causes health problems.
The interesting thing is that you can have peace in God even in difficult times (Philippians 4:6 and James 1:2). This is because God is the Promisor and Giver of Peace.
Prayer/Blessing
Lord Jesus, I thank you for your perfect gift of peace. I lay claim to and receive your perfect peace into my life in Jesus’ Name.
Therefore, I declare inner and outer peace in my life, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
