A faithful person will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.

Proverbs 28:20 Devotional (Daily Bible Verse)

A Faithful Person will be Blessed

Proverbs 28:20 states that “a faithful person will be blessed“. God’s blessings will abound in many areas of the lives of the faithful. And they will also bring joy into their lives (Proverbs 10:22).

God blesses the faithful because He wants us to be faithful in the work that He has given us (Matthew 25:14-30 and Ephesians 2:10). Remember, work was something that God gave to man in the Garden before the Fall. And Paul exhorted us to work faithfully because we do it unto God (Colossians 3:23-24).

Therefore, working faithfully puts us in a position for God to bless us. That is why the wise man says in this verse that the faithful person will abound with blessings.

Regardless, faithfulness is always accompanied by specific blessings. Among those many benefits are blessings.

Get-rich-quick

In addition, the wise man states that “eagerness to get rich will be punished”. And remember, our culture is obsessed with getting rich quickly. This is why pyramid schemes exist.

But this is what Solomon advised against. Because a faithful man represents a person of integrity, someone who exemplifies prudence and careful action. And a hasty man embodies selfish gain, mostly at the expense of self and others.

Faithfulness

Jesus also added His voice on the subject of faithfulness. Therefore, in Luke 16:10, Jesus said: “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.”

This is because faithfulness is demonstrated over a period of time. During that time the faithful man has to be patient. And patience is a core quality of them that pursue God and His will.

Consequently, faithfulness and God’s blessings go hand-in-hand since both are processes that take place over time. On the one hand, faith is marked by consistency while increments mark blessings over time.

Prayer/Blessing

May God help you to embrace the value of lifelong faithful work, and avoid the get-results-quick schemes that normally involve compromise. Amen.
