”Do not quench the Spirit.

1 Thessalonians 5:19 (Daily Bible Verse)
Do not quench the Spirit
Do not quench the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19) means that you and I are the ones who determine if we will quench (suppress) the working of the Holy Spirit in us. Because you are to give the Holy Spirit free reign in your life.
God has given you free will. Therefore, you are the one to choose not quenching His Spirit.
This is the Spirit that God deposits on the inside of you when you get saved to indwell you. He indwells you since God’s desire is to work in and through you. So His Spirit allows you to do the things God has already ordained for you before you were born.
That’s why Apostle Paul instructs us not to look down on the supernatural work of the Spirit and, thus, end up treating/handling Him with disrespect/mockery. This includes but is not limited to, neglecting His gift (1 Corinthians 12:1-4), resisting spiritual expressions (Ephesians 5:18-19), and resisting the manifestation of His fruit (Galatians 5:22-23).
Therefore, quench not the Spirit. Do not suppress or try to stop Him from what He is trying to do in and through you. Don’t be an obstacle in what He is leading you to do.
When you quench the Holy Spirit, you miss an opportunity to be blessed by God. Choosing to follow your own worldly/carnal desires, disobedience to the leading of the Spirit, and other things like anger, hate, bitterness, or unforgiveness are some ways you can quench God’s Spirit.
Quenching, or putting out the work of the Spirit, is progressive. In this progression, there is a continual loss of sensitivity to and discernment of the Spirit’s leading.
Prayer/Blessing
Lord, help me not quench Your Spirit. Teach me how to fan the Spirit in me. I pray this in Jesus Christ’s Name, Amen.
Purpose to quench not the Spirit of Christ.
