Colossians 3:15 Devotional (Verse of the Day)
In Colossians 3:15, Paul wrote to the Colossians with a simple and profound instruction: Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts… and be thankful. He wrote to them while imprisoned, addressing a young church facing cultural pressures and doctrinal confusion. False teachers were promoting ideas that distracted from the sufficiency of Christ.
Consequently, in response, Paul reminded them of their new identity in Christ, calling them to “put on” spiritual virtues that reflect their transformation. And nestled in this list is a crucial instruction that is Colossians 3:15.
”Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

Let the Peace Rule: Living Thankfully from the Inside Out
Peace feels like a rare commodity in a world swirling with stress, conflict, and constant noise. Yet Paul shows us that true peace isn’t found in external ease but in the inner reign of Christ. This peace is deeply tied to gratitude—it creates room for thanksgiving, even when life is far from perfect.
In this devotional, we explore how peace within, anchored in Christ, gives birth to a lifestyle of daily gratitude.
1. The Peace of Christ—More Than a Feeling
When Paul talks about the “peace of Christ,” he’s not referring to momentary calm or emotional relief. This peace is rooted in the reconciling work of Jesus. Through Him, we are no longer enemies of God—we’re forgiven, restored, and called to live in unity (Colossians 1:20). This peace becomes our internal compass, guarding our hearts in every season.
2. Let It Rule
To “let” the peace of Christ rule means to give it authority—to allow it to overrule anxiety, pride, division, and fear. Paul is writing to a community of believers. He reminds them that peace is not only personal but communal. When peace reigns in our hearts, it reflects in our relationships. We stop being easily offended, start forgiving more quickly, and live with more contentment. Gratitude becomes our posture, not just an occasional practice.
3. Gratitude: The Fruit of Inner Peace
When the peace of Christ rules, thanksgiving flows naturally. Not because everything is perfect, but because Christ is present. Peace calms our striving and opens our eyes to God’s goodness, even in hard places. Gratitude in this light is not just a response to what God has done, but a reflection of who He is in us.
4. Called into One Body
Paul adds a subtle reminder: we were called in one body. Thanksgiving should be a personal virtue and part of our shared identity as the Church. In a divided world, a thankful people shine. When we appreciate each other, forgive quickly, and celebrate grace together, we reflect the heart of Jesus.
