The apple of His eye
Are you the apple of His eye (Deuteronomy 32:10)? If you are saved, then you are the apple of God’s eye.
Notice the verbs: found, shielded, cared for, and guarded. Therefore, has God found, shielded, cared for, and guarded you? And why would He do this?
The key to understanding this lies in the relationship between the apple and our eyes. Therefore, the apple in someone’s eye refers to the pupil.
In the old days, the pupil was believed to be as solid as an apple. The image of the apple was added to make the resulting phrase sound poetic.
Thus, the phrase “apple in the eye”, which appears five (5) times in the Old Testament, refers to someone’s favorite. Meaning that the apple of one’s eye is the description of someone considered to be as precious as one’s eyes.
Therefore, when you are in God’s plans or get saved (born again), you become precious in His eyes. That’s why the first thing that God does is find you.
Remember, God is a seeker of lost sheep (Luke 15:4). Before He finds us, we are lost. But after He finds us, we become His precious possession.
Thereafter, God shields you, cares for you, and guards you. Just as God watched over the nation of Israel in the wilderness, God is surely watchful over each of us. He saved you so that He can watch over you.
You are His precious child. So, when you find yourself filled with negative thoughts, especially the insecure ones, remind yourself of how special (valuable) you are to God – “you are the apple of His eye”.
Prayer
Lord, I thank You for saving me and making me the apple of Your eye. I exalt You in the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Blessing
May you stand secure in the reality of God’s love for you. Amen.
