”But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.
Deuteronomy 8:18New International Version (NIV)
Deuteronomy 8:18 Devotional
Remember the Lord your God
Remember God (Deuteronomy 8:18) because He is the One who enables you to make wealth. He is the God who has enabled you to be productive and even get wealthy. And in doing so, He confirms His covenant.
Therefore, God is the One that gives us physical and spiritual strength and might to be productive. He is the source of all your productivity and wealth.
Consequently, remembering God is because of the fact that you are who He wanted you to be. And once you have become somebody or wealthy (satisfied), your focus may shift from God to His blessings. Your focus may also shift from God’s enablement to your abilities.
This is usually due to pride (Hosea 13:6). Therefore, pride can be the enemy of remembrance. And in the state of pride, we may think that we can make it without God.
Most often than not, we tend to forget God when He has made things go well for us. But remember Him when things go bad.
God’s Covenant
Remember, God’s covenant was God’s vision for His people. Therefore, He enables you to be what He wants you to be and what He wants you to have. Without God, we cannot be what He wants us to be or have what He wants us to have.
Obedience
Obedience is therefore the best way to remember God (James 1:22-25). Continuous remembrance (through thankfulness) keeps the memories of God’s provisions fresh (Psalm 103:1-5) and is an observation (fulfillment) of the greatest command (Matthew 22:37-38). And thankfulness helps you to correctly perceive your present blessings (James 1:17).
Prayer/Blessing
Lord, thank You for making me wealthy. I honor You for being my enabler in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
May you remember God for enriching you. Amen.
