The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Exodus 14:14 Devotional

The Lord will fight for you

The Lord will fight for you” (Exodus 14:14) are the words of Moses, by divine inspiration, when he reminded the Israelites of God’s power over everything. Because God indeed wields power over everything.

Moreover, remember, God had hardened Pharaoh’s heart. He was therefore stubborn in giving freedom to the Israelites.

But finally, Pharaoh did release the Israelites from under his yoke. And as soon as he realized what he had done, that is, Egypt had no slaves (labor force), he ordered his huge fleet of chariots and officers to pursue the Israelites.

Therefore, when the Israelites saw Pharaoh’s army closing in on them, they were terrified. And they resorted to complaining to the Lord and Moses on the account of the impending decimation at the hand of Pharaoh.

God will fight for you

But Moses commanded the Israelites to be still. And they stilled.

Immediately after Moses commanded the Israelites to be still, God commanded Moses to get the Israelites going! God did this because He was ready to show his mighty power to the Israelites and the Egyptians once again. And as God readied Himself, He wanted the Israelites to continue moving quickly! He didn’t want them to stop moving toward the Promised Land.

Therefore, just as God had promised, He showed his glory and power by keeping the Israelites safe. While He allowed the waters of the Red Sea to sweep over the Egyptian army which was right on their heels, God ensured the same waters didn’t harm the Israelites.

Worrisome and scary situations

Similarly, there are many circumstances that most often than not leave us feeling like the Israelites, that is, worried and scared. And these situations shake our faith, and we find ourselves complaining to our God.

But complaining about worrisome and scary situations is not a good thing when God is leading us to His destiny for us. Because complaining, which is a manifestation of doubt in God’s plan for our lives, makes us guests of the worrisome or scary situation (otherwise known as the wilderness).

Nevertheless, God never changes. Therefore, the same God who fought for Israel is the same God we now worship.

Consequently, He will fight for you against whatever “enemies” are threatening you and your faith.

Therefore, even in our darkest times, when our fears and wavering faith immobilize us, God helps us to keep or get going just like He did for the Israelites. Because you are sure He will fight for you and will continue to fight for you through all of life’s threatening situations until you finally reach your destiny.

Prayer

Father, teach me to be still in life-threatening situations so that I can see you fight for me. Thank you in advance for how you will fight for me. I pray this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Blessing

May the Lord fight for you right now in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Therefore, just be still and see the Lord take you to His destiny for you.
