Galatians 3:13 Devotional (Verse of the Day)

Galatians 3:13 should be good news if you have ever felt stuck in a cycle. Like, no matter how hard you try, something invisible keeps holding you back? Whether it’s recurring failure, guilt, or shame, many believers walk around unknowingly burdened by what Scripture calls “the curse of the law.” But here’s the good news: Christ didn’t just forgive your sins—He redeemed you from every curse.

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole."

Galatians 3:13New International Version (NIV)

Redeemed From the Curse

Galatians 3:13 is one of the most liberating verses in the New Testament. Paul, addressing both Jewish and Gentile believers, explains that Christ has purchased us out of the curse that the law pronounces over sin. But what is this curse?

According to the law in Deuteronomy, disobedience brought a series of consequences—poverty, sickness, bondage, and separation from God. These weren’t random; they were the results of humanity’s inability to meet the law’s demands. And the truth is, no one—then or now—can fulfill the law perfectly.

But Christ stepped in.

He didn’t just remove the penalty. He took it on Himself. He became the very thing we feared—”a curse”—by dying the most shameful death imaginable: hanging on a cross. In doing so, He didn’t just cancel the debt; He paid it in full, and rewrote your spiritual inheritance.

Now, instead of a curse, you have a blessing.
Instead of bondage, you have freedom.
Instead of rejection, you have sonship.

All because Jesus took your place.

Reflection

Are there areas in your life where you still feel like you’re “earning” God’s approval?

Do you ever feel like you’re living under guilt, shame, or a cycle of failure?

Remember this: If Jesus became a curse for you, then you’re no longer under one. Don’t live like someone still trying to break free. Live as one who’s already been freed.

Prayer/Blessing

Lord Jesus,

Thank You for redeeming me from the curse of the law. Thank You for becoming a curse so that I might walk in blessing, righteousness, and peace. Help me to live in the freedom You paid for—no longer held back by guilt or fear. Let the truth of Galatians 3:13 reshape how I see myself and how I walk with You daily.

In Your Name, Amen.
