“As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”

Genesis 8:22New International Version (NIV)

Genesis 8:22 Devotional

Times will never cease

According to Genesis 8:22, “Times will never cease“. God promised that “as long as the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer, and winter, day and night will never cease”.

Therefore, God’s promise after the flood, that “times will never cease”, is a strong reminder of God’s faithfulness. Verse 21 reveals God’s commitment to never again curse the earth or destroy all living creatures in whatever way.

Consequently, God is sustaining all of creation and will continue to do so until the New Heaven and the New Earth. The patterns of nature according to time will remain as God created them to function.

While the earth remains

But God’s promise is conditional because it is based on “while the earth remains”. That is, God will not destroy creation until the times of the end. That is when He will establish the new heaven and the new earth (Revelation 21:1).

Consequently, we will enjoy the ceaselessness of time with the gifts that are our lives. And therefore it is important for you and me to know that God, in His mercy, will always bring a new day tomorrow – of course after the night.

Divine rhythms

Additionally, God created nature with an internal divine rhythm. Therefore, all creation has a God-ordained rhythm. And this is really what God sustains for us because he loves us – the earth and all that is in it was created for man.

Therefore, we can depend on God’s faithfulness to keep time running. And know that the rhythm of time will remain constant.

Time and opportunities

Moreover, this also means that, as long as the earth exists, you and I will always have opportunities to do something about our lives, especially as pertains to our purposes and destinies in our lifetimes – specific periods of time. And this is in agreement with the wisdom of Ecclesiastes 9:11 which implies that time and chance (opportunity) is availed to all (the swift, the strong, the wise, the brilliant, and the learned) by God.

Therefore, for example, the fastest runner may not win the race, or the strongest person may win the battle. But God orchestrates everything that concerns each and all of us. And therefore at His appointed time, He accordingly avails the chances for each of us to win.

Consequently, by acting at the right time, of course under discernment, success is guaranteed. And therefore, success is available to all.

Moreover, the fact that time can run without God’s interruption/interference accords you and me the opportunities to plant and to harvest, to be exalted and to be humbled, and to devour and to rest – planting, exalting, and devouring are daytime activities, while the rest are nighttime activities. And these opportunities are beneficial only when you and I work with God in His faithfulness that is based on time.

Prayer/Blessing

So, under the leadership of God, plan and execute the same with confidence, because time is on your side. Selah.
