”By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
Hebrews 11:3New International Version (NIV)
Hebrews 11:3 Devotional
God spoke the world into existence
Hebrews 11:3 tells us that when by faith (conviction) we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, then we’re able to understand that the visible/seen creation was made out of the invisible/unseen (God’s spoken word). Faith is what enables us to understand that God created the universe, and He did so through His word.
Therefore, we must be convinced that God’s word is powerful. And faith is what enables us to understand the origin of creation and the role of God the Creator in creation. For, in the beginning, God commanded (spoke) the world into existence by the power of His spoken Word (Genesis 1:3-29). He commanded, and thus created creation out of nothing (Psalm 33:9).
Consequently, faith is belief in the power of God’s word. Faith is trusting that there is power in God’s word. That God’s word is powerful to transform our situations.
In Psalm 107:20, the Psalmist testifies that God sent His word and they were healed. He also testifies that God’s word rescued them from death.
Therefore, God is able to bring into existence what was not previously in existence through His word. That’s how He turns around the situations of our lives.
Also remember, you and I are created in the image of God. There is therefore power of life/creation (and death) in the words you speak, particularly over the areas of your life (Proverbs 18:21). Therefore, your tongue can be a blessing (or a curse). Using God’s Word, speak life and conform to the same in the areas and situations of your life.
Prayer/Blessing
Lord, You are the Creator of all. I honor You for Your Word that has power over my life. Be exalted in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
May God help our understanding of formations through the faith He has gifted us. Amen.
