Hebrews 12:2 Devotional

Fix your eyes on Jesus

Hebrews 12:2 encourages you and me to fix our eyes on Jesus who is seated at the right hand of God. And in His enduring of the cross, He set a perfect example of how to stay focused for you and me.

When going through life and its ups and downs, you may feel like things are out of your control. However, you must not lose focus in order not to maintain your faith balance. Losing focus means losing your balance and falling off.

So what should your focus be on? In Paul’s letter to the Hebrews, he asked them to put away everything that will weigh them down, sin that so easily entangles, and to run the race with patience and endurance, focusing on Jesus who is the “author and finisher of our faith”. That is, Jesus is our focus. Through everything, you must not lose sight of Him! Stay focused on him.

Paul is a great example of someone who didn’t lose focus through all the trials and persecutions he faced. He didn’t lose sight of Jesus not even for a moment. In one instance, he said “we are hard-pressed on every side, but not crushed; persecuted but not abandoned, struck down but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus…” (2 Corinthians 4:8).

But no matter what he went through, he stayed focused on Jesus and that was his motivation throughout his ministry. At the end of it all, he could proudly say “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7).

Therefore, whatever hardships and trials you go through in life, no matter how hard your faith is tested and how deep and dark the tunnel is, always remember that you’ve got God by your side and you will get to the light at the end of the tunnel. Just do not lose sight of Jesus along the way. Stay focused on Him!

Prayer/Blessing

Lord help me fix my eyes on You. Amen.
