God Will Forgive Wickedness and Remember Our Sins No More

Hebrews 8:12 states that “God will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more“. This is a verse that captures what God has done through Jesus on the cross for us, and what He has made possible for us.

All this is because God is merciful and gracious towards our unrighteousness and sins (lawlessness – 1 John 3:4). His purpose is to not only pardon (forgive – Jeremiah 31:31-33) but to forget our sins too (Hebrews 10:17). He offers this forgiveness through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:7, and Colossians 1:14). And through the same, God commits to completely forget our sins.

Therefore, Christ is the fulfillment of God’s promises. This is in keeping with what God had said, “I will be merciful toward their iniquities.”

The Value of a Pardon

The value of a pardon is in its acceptance by the guilty party. Otherwise, it remains a legal decree (which does not hold value).

Therefore, the value in God’s pardon of our sins is in accepting the same. This we do by taking His word in this verse to heart. That is, “I will be merciful towards your iniquities and I will remember your sins no more.”

Unfortunately, so many (religious) people carry on as if the tremendous sacrifice of Jesus did not completely wash away and forgive all of our sins forever. This is a complete denial of what Jesus has already done for them.

Accepting and receiving God’s pardon is what it means to be redeemed. It is the result of salvation and what needs to be received and embraced every day of your life.

Prayer/Blessing

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for You are a Merciful and Gracious God. Thank You for Your forgiveness of my sins, unrighteousness, and iniquities.

Indeed, “as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:12). I thank You in Your Name, Amen.
