Isaiah 40:29 Devotional
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak
Isaiah 40:29 captures God’s promise to His weak and weary people. That He will give strength to the weary and increase the power of the weak.
Because at any moment in time, there is someone who is going through a difficult circumstance. And these circumstances not only cause us pain, but they make us weary and weak.
This, therefore, means that at any given moment, there is always someone in need of strength and additional power. And God is the source of these two things. He promised to give them to us just as He did to His faithful in the past.
But most often than not, and through prayers, though you may want God to change your difficult circumstances, He may not change it for His own reasons. But He will give you strength for your weariness, and more power for your weakness. These will help you get through difficult times.
Therefore, when you depend on God, He will give you a fresh supply of strength and power in your moment of weariness and weakness. Remember, He is the source of strength for the weary and the source of power for the weak.
Paul
When Paul was being tormented, He asked God to take it away on three occasions (2 Corinthians 12:8), but God didn’t. God told him that “His grace was sufficient for him, and His power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9a).
Consequently, Paul resolved to “boast gladly about his weakness, so that Christ’s power could rest on him” (2 Corinthians 12:9b). And remember, Paul said that such things happened to them so that they can be examples for and warnings to us (1 Corinthians 10:11).
Further, in Isaiah 40:30-31, Isaiah reveals that even the youth (the strong ones) will become weary and weak at some point in their life; but those who will trust in God will receive new strength that will enable them to soar, run, or walk without wearing or fainting.
Therefore, when we find ourselves unable to continue strongly in the walk of faith amidst the draining difficulties of life, we can put our hope in God and His promise. And it is in these moments of absolute weariness and weakness, even powerlessness and brokenness that the Lord is most present and real to give us strength and power to continue on.
Prayer/Blessing
May God strengthen and empower you in whatever it is that you need strength and power. Amen.
