I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.

Job 19:25 Devotional

My redeemer lives

Job’s statement, recorded in Job 19:25, that “My Redeemer lives“, was the confidence that God would appear and vindicate him from the accusations of his friends. His friends had accused him of having committed some great sin. And therefore, God had turned against him because of the same.

Most often than not, when something goes wrong in our lives, we think that we’re not deserving of the wrong thing in our lives. We think and feel that the same doesn’t belong to us because we are faithful to God. And in fact, we usually think and feel that we deserve something else (better).

Sadly, some of us even go further and quit on God. And we do this because we believe that God has not held up His end of the bargain. That is, despite being faithful to God and his expectations of us, God has not done His part.

Therefore, we do not even appreciate that God allows trouble into our lives for His own purposes and glory. We do not appropriate the trouble in our lives with God’s will for our lives.

Nevertheless, despite being good (that is, acting righteously), we conclude that God has not reciprocated our righteousness. He has not honored our righteousness with blessings.

Reward versus punishment

As a matter of fact, the reward for holiness, and punishment for wickedness is a feature of the Law of God, and ultimately how He relates with us. But it is also primarily about the end-time eternal judgment. And that is why Job’s theology was based on His confidence in God, which was commendable.

Therefore, in fact, concerning the troubles of life, Job famously asked: “Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?”

Consequently, in other words, Job said that God is God. He will do what He wants to do how He wants to do it.

Moreover, that’s why Paul, in Romans 9:15, quoting Exodus 33:19, wrote that “God will have mercy on whom He wills, and show compassion on whom He wills”, which means that God shows mercy on anyone that He chooses. And therefore, it has nothing to do with the beneficiary of His mercy – no wonder, Jacob and Esau did nothing to be loved and hated respectively (Romans 9:13).

God is good

Therefore, God is good. And He has a destiny specifically for you.

He shall therefore decide your life and its condition. And He shall redeem you when He wills.

Prayer/Blessing

Indeed, I know my Redeemer LIVES!
