Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on them.
Praise the Lord.

John 3:36 Devotional

The Wondrous Eternal Life Is In Believing The Wonderful Son

John 3:36 presents a profound truth: “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.” No wonder I have titled this devotion: “The Wondrous Eternal Life Is In Believing The Wonderful Son“.

This verse, therefore, reveals that the key to experiencing the wondrous eternal life is found in believing in the wonderful Son, Jesus Christ. It’s consequently an invitation to embrace a life transformed by faith and a warning to consider the consequences of rejecting Jesus Christ.

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life

“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life” is both a simple and profound promise. You only have to choose belief to partake of it.

Belief in Jesus is not merely intellectual assent; it’s a heartfelt trust in Him as Lord and Savior. It’s acknowledging His sacrifice on the cross as the payment for our sins and accepting His offer of forgiveness and new life.

Moreover, eternal life is not just about living forever. It’s about experiencing a quality of life that begins now and extends into eternity, a life marked by a restored relationship with God.

But whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them

“But whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them” is a sobering warning. Because rejection of Jesus is not a neutral stance. It’s a deliberate turning away from God’s offer of grace.

Therefore, God’s wrath is not arbitrary! It’s His just response to sin, which is a consequence of refusing His provision for salvation.

The choice is clear

The choice is clear: belief or rejection, life or wrath. There is no middle ground.

Verse 36 of John chapter 3 highlights the exclusivity of Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). It’s a reminder that our eternal destiny hinges on our response to Him.

Reflection

John 3:36 underscores the urgency of responding to the Gospel message. So:

  1. Where do you stand concerning Jesus Christ? Have you placed your faith in Him as Lord and Savior?
  2. Are there any areas of your life where you are holding back from fully surrendering to Him?
  3. Do you understand the seriousness of rejecting Jesus and the consequences of that decision?
  4. What steps can you take to deepen your faith and strengthen your relationship with Christ?

Prayer/Blessing

Heavenly Father, I thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, the wonderful Son, to be the Savior of the world. I acknowledge that He is the only way to the wondrous eternal life.

Therefore, I confess my sins and ask for Your forgiveness. Help me to place my complete trust in Jesus and to live a life that honors Him.

Grant me the assurance of eternal life and protect me from Your just wrath. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Call to Action

Today, make a conscious decision to believe in Jesus Christ, the wonderful Son of God.

  • If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus, confess your sins and ask Him to be your Lord and Savior.
  • If you are a believer, recommit your life to Christ and seek to grow in your faith.
  • Spend time in prayer and Bible study, deepening your understanding of the Gospel.
  • Share the good news of Jesus with someone who needs to hear it.
  • Reflect on the gift of eternal life and express gratitude to God.

Choose the wondrous eternal life. Believe in the wonderful Son.
