Luke 17:33 Devotional (Daily Bible Verse)
Whoever loses their life will preserve it
In Luke 17:33, Jesus told His disciples that “Whoever loses their life will preserve it“. He did this about the day when He will be revealed.
Jesus revealed this information to His disciples on His way to Jerusalem (Luke 9:51-19:28). He specifically told them that He would be revealed on a day when people would be going about their normal daily activities (Luke 17:26-30).
On that day, “whoever who will try to keep his/her life will lose it, and whoever who will lose his/her life will preserve it” (Luke 17:31-33). And Jesus told them these words while referring to Lot’s wife.
Lot’s wife
Now, Lot’s wife looked back at Sodom when the angels who destroyed it had already commanded Lot and his family not to look back while they fled from it (Genesis 19:26, 15-22). She was, therefore, turned into a pillar of salt.
Do not fetch your possessions
Nevertheless, when Jesus is revealed, you should not go to fetch your possessions (Luke 17:31). Instead, you will have to flee for your life (Mark 13:14-16).
You should not go back for your goods because you will lose your life the way Lot’s wife did. This calls for you to lose your grip on the things of life so that you can be ever ready.
Prayer/Blessing
Lord Jesus, You have already prepared me for Your Second Coming. And You have emphasized that I must always be ready for this glorious day.
I, therefore, humble myself to Your instruction. And I pray that You help me to keep Your teaching at the top of my mind and heart and lose my grip on the things of life. This is so that on the day that You are revealed, I will not miss out on life.
This is my humble prayer of faith in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
