"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28New International Version (NIV)

Matthew 11:28 Devotional

Rest for the Weary and Burdened

Matthew 11:28 captures Jesus Christ putting out an urgent invitation (call) to rest. He puts out His call to all who are weary and burdened. And the beautiful thing is that this call is still relevant and valid today to anyone who considers themselves to be labouring and pressured and in need of real rest.

There is no one who does not fall into either of these two (2) categories. These two (2) categories cover the multitude of issues that people deal with on a daily basis in their lives. Therefore, if you are in need of revitalization, then Jesus is what you need. That is, if you’re tired and struggling, Jesus can give you rest.

This also describes the path to God the Father. It is not a path of labor and hard work. Because following Jesus frees us from carrying the burden of our own sin since He has already done that work.

Therefore, all you need to do is put your faith, hope, and trust in Him. Commit to Him and submit to His protection and authority. This is how to take His yoke.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I thank you for your great invitation to rest! I heed your call and receive your rest in your Name, Amen.

Prayer to Receive and Believe in Jesus Christ

Lord Jesus, I heed your call to rest. I, therefore, confess that I am a sinner who is separated from you. I am truly sorry and would like to turn away from my sinful past to you. Please forgive me of my sins and keep me away from temptation and sin.

I believe that your only Son, Jesus Christ, died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, and is alive. I invite you Jesus to come into my life and become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey you, and to do your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
