”Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
Matthew 19:26New International Version (NIV)
Matthew 19:26 Devotional
With God all things are possible
Matthew 19:26, which contains the phrase “With God all things are possible“, shows that only God can save man. And this is what Jesus duly communicated to His disciples.
Of course, the context of this reality is the account of the rich young ruler (Matthew 19:16-22). This man had wanted to know how to have eternal life.
Consequently, Jesus told him to keep the commandments. This he said he had done.
Therefore, he asked Jesus what he was lacking. And Jesus told him to sell all his possessions, and give the proceeds to the poor and follow him. But the man went away sad because he was rich.
When I was younger, I always wondered who treated sick doctors or who shaved barbers with long hair. Later, after growing up, I came to learn/discover that the doctor and the barber got treated or shaved by their colleagues.
Similarly, a sinner cannot save himself. It is impossible for him to do this because he is very limited in the ability and power to do so.
A sinner, therefore, needs someone with the ability and power to save him/her. One who can make salvation possible for him. And Jesus is the One, the only One who can save a sinner.
That is why he told the rich young ruler that “with God all things are possible”. That is, salvation in all its forms is possible in God. He, being all-able and all-powerful, is able to save even those considered ‘unsavable’ (like the rich young ruler).
Prayer
Lord, Your power has no limit. I surrender to You to complete Your saving work in me. For this is my prayer in Jesus Christ’s Name, Amen.
Blessing
May God’s full salvation be manifested in your life. Amen.
