”Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Matthew 28:19New International Version (NIV)
Matthew 28:19 Devotional (Daily Bible Verse)
Go and make disciples of all nations
In Matthew 28:19, Jesus commanded His disciples to “go and make disciples of all nations“. After all, He had made disciples out of the original twelve apostles (Mark 3) by living with them, experiencing life together with them, and also teaching them.
Therefore, it took Jesus time (that is three years) to make them disciples. The moment each of them chose to follow Jesus and give up their old lives, they began the discipleship journey. By living with Jesus, He made them into complete disciples.
In other words, Jesus believed that what He had done for them, they could also do for others. This was His expressed desire expressed in the commandment.
Though many Christians know Jesus’ commandment, it isn’t one they aspire to obey. Actually, the only people who are known disciples makers are the missionaries. Because many Christians believe that the Great Commission was designated for the original disciples (apostles). They, therefore, excuse themselves from the Great Commission.
Two well-known excuses include the dislike of travel (going to other nations), and the opposition to social interactions with strangers (baptizing them). But every believer is meant to partake in fulfilling the Great Commission. Progress will be realized when we step outside of our comfort zones (excuses).
Therefore, make disciples by first identifying your strengths. Thereafter, you will find ways to participate in the Great Commission.
Prayer/Blessing
Lord God, help me to obey Your command. Lord Jesus, help me to put my trust in Your authority. Help me overcome my excuses and get out of my comfort zone.
God, help me to be bold in my life, and as a witness among the people I live. Help me make disciples starting today. Use my life to cause those around me to know Your love, and to begin a relationship with You.
Jesus, empower me for this Great Commission. Let Your presence will be with me.
I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
