”But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Matthew 6:33New International Version (NIV)
Matthew 6:33 Devotional (Daily Bible Verse)
Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness
Matthew 6:33 commands you and me to “seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness“. This is because it is one of the essential principles for living a genuine Christian life. And it also addresses the daily needs of a Christian.
Additionally, Matthew chapter 6 verse 33 is one of the building blocks of the Sermon on the Mount recorded in Matthew 5-7. The Sermon on the Mount is the longest and most popular sermon that Jesus Christ authoritatively delivered to His disciples at the beginning of His illustrious ministry.
Seeking daily provisions
Nevertheless, Matthew chapter 6 verse 33 is Jesus’ conclusion on the subject of daily provisions and seeking the same. Because Jesus commands you to “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness” since God will provide your daily needs.
Consequently, Jesus taught that you “need not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink or about your body, what you will wear” (Matthew 6:25). He further taught that “God knows that you need these things”. That is why He will provide these things to you (Matthew 6:33).
Moreover, letting God provide your daily needs is an act of faith because your faith has to be accompanied by works. And Jesus taught that “pagans run after daily provisions” (Matthew 6:32). But you are not a pagan (non-believer).
Therefore, you shouldn’t run after these things because that will be engaging in the works of the law. You should let God provide these things to you because that will be the work of grace since God will provide them to you.
You are valuable to God
Moreover, God will provide for you your daily needs because you are His valuable creation (Matthew 6:26). And He knows that these things are accessed using money. Because money is both a medium of exchange and a store of value.
Therefore, money is an important and necessary tool in your life. No wonder, Jesus taught a lot about money. And in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught that “you cannot serve both God and money” because “you will love one and hate the other” (Matthew 6:24).
Additionally, Jesus taught that “you will treasure either God or money”, thus, “store up your treasures in either heaven or on earth” (Matthew 6:19-21). And your heart will be where your treasure is – your heart should be on God.
Prayer/Blessing
Lord Jesus, help me to fully surrender to You. You value me so much and I know You will take care of me. This is my prayer of faith in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
