But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord,
I wait for God my Savior;
my God will hear me.

Micah 7:7New International Version (NIV)

Micah 7:7 Devotional

I wait for God my Savior

Micah 7:7 offers a powerful image of hope amidst despair: “But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.” Because in a world filled with uncertainty and challenges, this verse reminds us where our true hope lies. It’s a declaration of faith, a commitment to trusting in God’s provision even when circumstances seem bleak.

Background

Micah wrote during a time of great moral decay and societal unrest in Israel. The people of Israel had turned away from God, and the prophet was witnessing the consequences of their actions.

Yet, amid this darkness, Micah chose to “watch in hope for the Lord, and wait for Him.” This wasn’t a passive glance; it was an active, intentional focus on God.

I wait for God my Saviour

Waiting is often difficult, especially when we face trials. However, Micah’s waiting is not rooted in despair but in confident expectation. He knows that God is his salvation, his deliverer and that He will act in due time.

My God will hear me

“My God will hear me” was a profound affirmation of God’s attentiveness. Micah trusted that God listened to his prayers and concerns. This assurance gave him strength and perseverance in the face of adversity.

Current despair

In our lives, we encounter situations that test our faith. We may face financial struggles, health issues, relationship difficulties, or global crises.

Micah 7:7 reminds us that in these moments, we can choose to look to the Lord. You can have confident expectations like Micah did because God declared that He will always be with you.

Additionally, we can wait for His salvation and trust that He hears our cries. Because when you trust in God, Micah’s affirmation is also your affirmation. You can affirm yourself with the exact words he used.

Reflection

Where are you looking for hope today? Are you relying on your strength, the opinions of others, the reports of experts, or the fleeting promises of the world?

Consider the areas of your life where you need to wait on God. Are you willing to trust in His timing and His plan, even when you don’t understand?

How can you cultivate a deeper sense of assurance that God hears your prayers? What steps can you take to strengthen your faith and trust in His provision?

Prayer/Blessing

Heavenly Father, in a world that often feels chaotic and uncertain, I choose to look to You. I acknowledge that You are my hope, my salvation, and my strength.

Help me to wait patiently for Your timing and to trust in Your perfect plan. Grant me the assurance that You hear my prayers and that You are working on my behalf. Strengthen my faith and help me to rely on You in every circumstance. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Call to Action

Today, commit to looking to the Lord in every situation.

  1. Identify a specific area where you need to trust God.
  2. Spend time in prayer, asking God for guidance and strength.
  3. Read scripture passages that speak of God’s faithfulness and provision.
  4. Write down a verse that reminds you of God’s promise to hear you.
  5. Share your burdens with a trusted friend or mentor.
  6. Find a way to serve others, as a way to focus on God’s work.

Let us all look to the Lord, wait for the God of our salvation, and trust that He will hear us.
