”The LORD is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.'
Numbers 14:18New International Version (NIV)
Numbers 14:18 Devotional (Daily Bible Verse)
The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion
In Numbers 14:18, Moses described the Lord God as being slow to anger (Psalm 145:8), abounding in love, and forgiving of sin and rebellion (Hebrews 4:16). He also punishes the guilty up to their fourth generation.
In other words, God is patient with all men. He is not quick to punish. His patience (long-suffering) is evidence that He is good, and faithful, and desires that every man receives the gift of salvation. This, therefore, offers each one of us an opportunity for repentance (Romans 2:4), so that an adverse judgment may be avoided.
God is also abounding in love. And abounding refers to an overflow that cannot be contained.
Therefore, God’s love can overflow into your life to the point where you cannot contain it anymore. The love of God is more than you can handle. It is also unconditional and faithful.
He is not going to abandon you if you go astray. He will remain steadfast through every season of your life. So you can be able to live with an abounding love towards others.
Prayer
Lord, I thank you for your patience towards sinners like me. It is this patience that gave me an opportunity to become your child. It is also this same patience that provides opportunities for countless others too. I thank you in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Prayer to Receive and Believe in Jesus Christ
Lord God, I don’t want your patience towards me to be in vain. I, therefore, confess that I am a sinner who is separated from you.
Consequently, I am truly sorry and would like to turn away from my sinful past to you. Please forgive me of my sins and keep me away from temptation and sin.
I believe that your only Son, Jesus Christ, died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, and is alive. Therefore, I invite you Jesus to come into my life and become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey you, and to do your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
