And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19New International Version (NIV)

Philippians 4:19 Devotional

God will meet all your needs

Paul tells the Philippians in Philippians 4:19 that God would meet all their needs. That is, after thanking the Philippians for their sacrificial giving, Paul tells them that their gift was not in vain. God would meet their needs, according to his riches in Jesus Christ.

Therefore, Paul reveals that God promises to bless them that participate in the ministry of the gospel. He is not suggesting that God makes us healthy and wealthy when we give to the church or towards the spread of the gospel.

Paul is also not suggesting that God will make us healthy and wealthy when we give our money to a particular cause or person. This is what is known as the “Prosperity Gospel,” and it’s one of the most dangerous heresies today. It turns God into a genie.

When Paul says that God will meet all of our needs according to the riches that are in Christ Jesus, he is revealing that God promises to bless us when we participate in the ministry of the gospel. God will fully supply the faithful supporters with what they need so that they can continue to support the ministry.

Sometimes what you may need may be the strength to persevere through the hard times. God will supply you with endurance. He often gave Paul the power to endure (Philippians 4:11-13).

At other times, you may need the power/help to overcome your enemies. God is able to empower/help you accordingly (Psalm 18:29 and 1 Samuel 17).

He is trustworthy. Therefore, He will supply you with what you need. 2 Corinthians 9:8 states that “God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work”.

Prayer/Blessing

May you join and participate in the kingdom of God, thus positioning yourself for God’s blessings.
