Proverbs 3:6 Devotional

In all your ways submit to him

Proverbs 3:6 gives instruction and a promise. That is, In all your ways submit to Him (the instruction), and God will make your paths straight (the promise).

Therefore, using the context of Proverbs 3:5, we can observe that submitting to God comprises trusting Him and not trusting our own wisdom. It comprises involving God in all your ways and, therefore, giving Him the space to direct your steps in the right direction. After all, Christianity is a life where you live in total surrender to the Lord God.

Furthermore, submitting to God means we must obey Him. It is crucial we obey God’s Word — not only read it. James 1:22 says: “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says”.

Reading the Bible

Therefore, reading the Bible is only the first step to trusting and obeying God. Thereafter, you have to understand God’s Word, and then apply what it says to your life. And this is because part of acknowledging God means we have to obey Him.

However, applying the teachings of the Bible by obedience is the hard part. And hard doesn’t mean impossible. It is very possible to obey God even when it seems hard.

Moreover, applying the Word of God in your life is what is called wisdom. And all in all, you have to trust and obey Him so that He can direct your path. Obeying God’s Word and living out the same in faith is what will transform you and me to the likeness of Jesus Christ.

This, therefore, calls for you to be intimate with God as you will give Him access to all the areas of your life, not just a part of it.

Prayer/Blessing

Heavenly Father, I submit all my ways to You. Strengthen me and guide me. And make my paths straight.

My heart overflows with gratitude and love when I think of Your love for me and that You will answer me whenever I call on You. Please instruct me and teach me the way I should go.

Draw me close to You, guide me, and bless me. Make my paths straight as per your promise. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
