The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.

Psalm 118:24 Devotional (Daily Bible Verse)

Let us rejoice today and be glad

The Psalmist, in Psalm 118:24, exhorts you and me to “Rejoice today and be glad“. He exhorts you and me to give thanks to God because of His salvation/deliverance. Because the context of Psalm 118:24 is made up of prophecies about Jesus Christ’s coming.

Jesus Christ, the Cornerstone

No wonder, the Psalmist in verses 22 to 23 reveals that Jesus was rejected by His own people (Matthew 21:42, Mark 12:10-11, and Luke 21:17). Regardless, He still became the “cornerstone” of the Church, thus, the most important part of it (Acts 4:11, Ephesians 2:20, and 1 Peter 2:6-7). And this is the Lord’s doing that you and I need to rejoice and be glad in today.

Because, Jesus, as the cornerstone, is the very center stone at the top of an arch which truly holds all the other pieces together. Without it, the arch would definitely fall. And this applies to you and me because Jesus is so crucial to our lives today in the Church – Without Him, the body will surely fall. This is because He is the only One who can hold all His sons together.

Therefore, God made the day of your salvation/deliverance through Jesus Christ. Christ came on earth and paved the way for you to be free vide His gift of salvation, offered to all through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.

On the cross is where Jesus was victorious over death and sin because He rose again. This is a reminder that the door is open for anyone, through faith in Christ, to join God’s family. And this is what you ought to rejoice in and be glad in, particularly the day He saved you.

Each day is a rich and precious gift from God

Additionally, you need to rejoice in and be glad today because each day is a rich and precious gift from God, with new grace, new mercies, and new opportunities. No wonder, Lamentations 3:22-23 states that: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is His faithfulness”.

Moreover, Jesus commanded His disciples to not be anxious for their tomorrow because they had the day they were already living in to focus on (Matthew 6:34). And it is the same for you and me. We are to focus on the day at hand.

Therefore, you have to be glad and rejoice over today because it is the day of God’s doings. This is what the Psalmist states with the words: “The Lord has done it today”.

The Lord has planned your today

Not only has the Lord made your today, but He has also planned it for you. No wonder, Paul, in Romans 8:28 revealed that “God works all things together for your good, for you who He has called according to his purpose.

God is, therefore, faithful and will take care of you and your needs. He will ensure that you are not tempted and tried beyond your ability to bear. In fact, 1 Corinthians 10:13 reveals that He will make the way of escape so that you can bear and even overcome the same.

This is the day that God will enable you to endure or overcome persecution or the hard time you are going through (2 Corinthians 4:16-18). Because today is the time and space in which God will do things for you.

Manifest good works

Finally, God made today so that you could manifest the good works that had been prepared for you because His abundant grace and strength are with you (Ephesians 2:10). You, like Esther, were made for a time such as this (Esther 4:14). Yours is, therefore, where the decision regarding today rests. And this is because life is a function of decisions.

So, choose “to think about whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, and whatever is admirable” (Philippians 4:8). Such that even though yesterday didn’t go well, today can be completely new and glorious. And because tomorrow is raising anxiety, today is what you need to fully focus on.

Prayer/Blessing

Lord God, thank You for making the day that enabled me to receive Your free gift of salvation through faith. And thank You for making the subsequent days for me to live by faith in You.

I am glad for today. And this is my humble thanksgiving in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
