I will sing the LORD's praise, for he has been good to me.

Psalm 13:6New International Version (NIV)

Psalm 13:6 Devotional

I will sing of Your goodness

Psalm 13:6 contains the phrase “I will sing of Your goodness“, which is a line of praise in the Psalm by David. In this Psalm, David had a reason to sing of the Lord’s goodness. To express this joy, he will “sing” to the Lord.

Psalm 13 is the shortest of the prayers for salvation. In this Psalter, the terse concision makes it one of the more emotionally effective. David was seeking the Lord’s deliverance from the intense distress and the helplessness he was facing.

Yet in spite of his apparent helplessness, he knows he can rely on the Lord for deliverance. He knows God loves him.

Therefore, in as much he had the reason to lament (since his situation had not changed), David chose to praise God. God had been good to him. And that’s why verse 6 marks the transition from petition to the expression of faith.

David didn’t wait for God to prove Himself. He was convicted that God would come through for him.

Similarly, even though your circumstance has not changed at all, you can pause and remember that God’s love for you has never failed. Meaning that God has been good to you this far.

When you ponder over your life, you will see that God has been good. You will acknowledge and testify that God has been good to you.

Therefore, there’s no reason why He will stop being good. He’ll continue to be good to you. And you will testify of His goodness.

Prayer

Lord, I thank You for Your goodness towards me. I rest assured that Your goodness will always accompany me. That’s why I exalt You in the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Blessing

Raise your voice today, and sing a song of praise, to the Lord who has been good to you.
