He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

Psalm 147:3New International Version (NIV)

Psalm 147:3 Devotional (Daily Bible Verse)

Healer of the Brokenhearted

Psalm 147:3 is a verse where the Psalmist projects God as a Healer of the brokenhearted. He heals those who are shattered because of unhappiness, or overwhelming sorrow or grief.

Generally, no human being has an easy life. We all have problems, hurts (rejection, disappointments, sorrow, and bereavement), and hidden wounds. Regardless, God is a healer of such. He heals us through the wounds of Jesus Christ (Isaiah 53:5).

It is therefore no wonder that God’s other Name is Jehovah Rapha. And this Name, Jehovah Rapha, means God the Healer because the Name Rapha means Healer.

The word Rapha doesn’t just refer to basic improvement or return to normal health, but rather a full restoration or perfect healing. This is courtesy of His mighty healing power.

Consequently, all this means that God is in the business of gathering outcasts (Mark 1:40-44 and John 4), healing broken hearts, and bandaging wounds. The Bible assures us that God is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). He does it through His Spirit.

Therefore, God will tell or remind you that you are acceptable too, valuable too, and loved by Him (Romans 15:7; John 3:16 and Matthew 10:29-31; Isaiah 54:10 and Romans 5:8). He will surely do this for the broken-hearted.

In addition, God will also bind the wounds that result from being heartbroken. This is because a wounded person will wound others. Hence, they will need to be restored by God.

Prayer/Blessing

Lord, I bless you for your closeness to the brokenhearted. I thank you that I am assured of your goodness during times of problems and hurt. I pray this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
