He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.

Psalm 147:4New International Version (NIV)

Psalm 147:4 Devotional (Daily Bible Verse)

God is great/mighty

Psalm 147:4 reveals that “God is great/mighty” because “He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by their name”. This is just a glimpse of how great/mighty God is because the number of stars is evidence of the same in creation (Genesis 1) and His promises to men (Genesis 13:16).

The Psalmist in Psalm 148:5 reveals that God merely “commanded and the stars were created” (Psalm 148:3). Because the “heavens are the work of His hands” (Psalm 102:25).

God can determine many things in your life

Therefore, if God determines the number of stars, and calls each by name (Psalm 147:4), then He can determine many things in your life and name each one of them. He did this exact thing in the life of Abraham when He told him (determined) that the number of his offspring would be as numerous as the stars in the sky (Genesis 15:5).

Additionally, God challenged Abraham to count the stars that were in the sky that night. But he couldn’t because what God can determine in a man’s life, no man, including you, can determine. No wonder, His promises concerning you and me are usually great.

God is able to do more than all we ask or imagine

Apostle Paul, in Ephesians 3:20, wrote that “God is able to do immeasurably more than all that we ask or imagine, according to His mighty power at work in us”. This, therefore, means that God is well able to extend His greatness into your life and the situation you are in.

Remember, He determined your beginning (Ephesians 2:10 and Jeremiah 1:5), development (growth), and end. He also determined your purpose in life (as declared in the previous two verses and Jeremiah 29:11).

Consequently, all that God knows and determines about you is good. And you can experience this goodness through His greatness. Remember, this goodness is specifically meant for you through Christ.

Therefore, all you need to do is to allow God to determine your steps and call you by name. Remember, He knew and knows all about you.

Prayer/Blessing

Lord God, I exalt You for knowing all about me. I look forward to experiencing more goodness from You. I pray this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer to Receive and Believe in Jesus Christ

Lord, I am not part of Your good plan for my life. However, I desire to be part of Your goodness.

Therefore, I confess that I am a sinner who is separated from you. I am truly sorry and would like to turn away from my sinful past to you. Please forgive my sins and keep me away from temptation and sin.

I believe that your only Son, Jesus Christ, died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, and is alive. Consequently, I invite you Jesus to come into my life and become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. And please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey you, and to do your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
