”One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.

One thing to ask and seek from the Lord
“One thing to ask and seek from the Lord” (Psalm 27:4) is inspired by David’s prayer life. His prayer life consisted of both asking and seeking. And his prayers were filled with desire.
Therefore, today’s verse brings out the idea of “asking and seeking one thing from the Lord”. What is the one thing that you can ask God for, and seek from Him?
My guess is that you’ll most likely ask for a gift, a provision, or help. But David asked to be with God. God’s presence was what was very important to him.
Is God’s presence important to you? Could it get to a point where it is important to you?
As you can see, David’s desire wasn’t haphazard. It was clinical and objective. That is, it had an end, God Himself.
And God’s end game is to fellowship with us just like it was in the garden of Eden. Meaning that He desires to fellowship with you and me. But sin is what came in between Him and us.
The good thing is that after God eliminates sin completely in the end times, we will be able to fellowship with Him. We will be in His presence as Revelation 22:4 reveals.
But before then, prayer is the way in which you will pursue a relationship with God. This is because prayer is an active thing for the Christian, not a passive one.
Therefore, to ask something of God is not to merely seek out an answer, but rather to seek out God Himself. Remember, prayer is the pursuit of a relationship with the God of the universe.
It was at the temple where the God of Israel made Himself known and His people drew near to Him. Thus, David wanted to not just be there for a season, but for all the days or seasons of his life.
Prayer/Blessing
Like David, a man described as “a man after God’s own heart”, may your prayers be filled with the desire for God and only Him.
