The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.

Psalm 28:7 Devotional

The Lord is my strength and my shield

Psalm 28:7 is a verse in David’s prayer for deliverance where he declared that the Lord was his strength and shield. This was a time when he was facing challenging times, thus, he took it before God.

As a warrior, David understood the importance of both strength and defensive protection. God consistently gave him victory over his enemies and protected him from the same. In all circumstances, he trusted God to take care of him.

We face many enemies daily. These enemies do not attack you and me with physical weapons.

Regardless, their attacks may cause physical, emotional, or economic pain or damage. But David demonstrates to us that we can trust God to take care of us. We can trust Him to strengthen and protect us.

When something great happens in your life, you most likely celebrate. Sometimes this will be a physical celebration, but often it is a celebration in your heart. This is because you are excited about what is happening to you.

Consequently, we can praise God for taking care of us. When David saw that God had been his strength and shield, and he could trust in Him to help in his times of need, he celebrated God. His heart leaped for joy and he broke out in a song of praise to God.

When you know and trust that God is your strength and shield, you will be extremely joyful and excited in your heart. You will be convinced that no matter what is happening or will happen, God is with you.

God loves you and is willing to be your strength and shield. Therefore, put all of your hope and trust in Him.

Prayer/Blessing

May you know that God loves you, and He is your strength and shield. Therefore, may you trust in Him alone. Amen.
