God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.

Psalm 46:5New International Version (NIV)

Psalm 46:5 Devotional

You and the place where God has planted you will not fall

Psalm 46:5 is not about a woman, thus, women. It is a verse nested in a Psalm or a song that was written for the nation of Israel. And the subject of Psalm 46 is Yahweh, the Eternal and Most High God.

Therefore, this psalm was used to indicate the victorious power of God as He stands for and defends His people. That’s why it begins with a declaration of who God is, and the psalmist comforts God’s people in the following words: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…”.

Consequently, Psalm 46 addressed a nation that faced many great enemy nations. These enemies threatened Israel’s physical safety and national sovereignty. But in this Psalm, the Psalmist reminded the people that their God is greater than any enemy.

Meaning that Zion will not fall to the enemy. Therefore, the purpose is to pray for the place where God has planted you, for its welfare and your welfare (Jeremiah 29:7). There is no power on earth that can stand against the God who dwells in you and me and protects the City that bears His name, or the place that He has planted you.

You too will not fall to the attacks of the enemy for God is also within you (1 Corinthians 6:19). He is dwelling (living) inside you and He is:

  1. greater than the enemy who dwells in the world (1 John 4:4),
  2. your strength (Philippians 4:13), and
  3. your help (Psalm 121:2).

Your help will come at the break of the day. That is in the nick of time. God is our refuge and helper in our time of need.

Prayer/Blessing

Praise be to You God, my protector, and my helper. I know I can call on You in my time of need and You will help me. This is my praise and hope in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

May you invite and allow God to dwell within you. Amen.
