But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.

Psalm 59:16New International Version (NIV)

Psalm 59:16 ~ I will sing

I will sing” (Psalm 59:16) is David’s revelation that he would sing aloud in the mornings. He would sing aloud in the mornings because of God’s strength which had been his fortress and refuge during the times he was in distress.

Remember, David was a king-designate – Prophet Samuel had already anointed him to be the next king of Israel. But he was on the run from the then-incumbent and irrational king, Saul.

Therefore, David was a man who was constantly under the cloud of fierce, bloodthirsty men who had been commanded by king Saul to hunt and kill him. But God delivered him from all this.

Consequently, David trusted God to be his hiding place. And God was his fortress and refuge.

Therefore, David depended on God. And God had never failed or forsaken him during the times he needed deliverance. For God used His strength and power, in His mercy, to deliver him from harm.

God is your deliverer too

It, therefore, doesn’t matter what you are going through or facing. Be it difficult or simple, stressful or not, regular or irregular, God is your deliverer. And each day is an opportunity to rely on God as your deliverer.

When you look at your life, there are incidents where God delivered you. There are also many unknown (unseen) incidents where you experienced God’s deliverance. And in all of them, God preserved you because of His steadfast love toward you.

God is your defense

Additionally, God is able to keep you away from harm. He is your defense when harm comes your way. And He is also your defense when men have conspired against you.

God is your fortress and refuge

Therefore, this time is no different (that is if you are in any form of distress). God is your refuge in these times of trouble and stress.

God will surely deliver you, thus, place a song of joy in your heart. Your heart will transition from sadness to singing because of God’s deliverance. And your disposition regarding your troubles or stress will turn from defeat to victory and distress to joy.

So, when you rely on God as your defense in times of trouble, He will put a song of joy in your heart. You will sing aloud because of joy! And you will praise Him.

Prayer/Blessing

Like David, take time to give thanks for God’s steadfast love for you. This is the love that makes Him defend you against your enemies.
