3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.

The throne of God

Revelation 22:3-4 paints the picture of the future throne of God in heaven. This will be when He will establish the New Heaven and New Earth. He will make all things new then (including Jerusalem). And He will dwell with man.

Therefore, John was enabled to see the New Heaven where there was no cursed tree. Only the tree of life was in the New Heaven. That is why there will be no more curses.

God’s throne will be in the New Heaven. From this throne, Christ’s servants will reign with Him and see His face (1 John 3:2-3). They will also bear the mark of Christ – that is, His Name on their foreheads.

Remember, in John’s visions that form the Revelation, everyone is marked, either with the name of the beast (Revelation 13:16-17 and 14:9-11) or with the name of Jesus (Revelation 3:12, 14:1 and 19:13,16). This will be the result of each one’s choice. But God’s will is that everyone should be marked with Jesus’ Name.

At that time, Jesus will have conquered all sin and death and thrown it all into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:10,14-15). His kingdom is life eternal (Hebrews 12:22-29).

So, the slaying of God’s Son on the cross will forever remain the centerpiece of God’s manifest glory. Jesus will eternally be the “face” of God the Father to His people.

The test of our present faith is that we do not see Jesus. But the promise of our present hope is that we shall see him face to face (1 Peter 1:8-9 and 1 John 3:2-3).

Prayer

Lord, I thank You for Your promise and assurance of eternal life in Your presence. I thank You in Jesus Christ’s Name, Amen.

Blessing

May you be assured of the new heaven and the consequent life that will come with it. Amen.
