Call on the Name of the Lord
In Romans 10:13, Paul declares that “everyone who calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved.” And his declaration is a direct quotation of Joel 2:32.
Additionally, Luke, in Luke 4:12 recorded Peter declaring: “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” And in Peter’s time, a person’s name held great significance.
Names represented a person’s essential character and personhood
Therefore, names represented a person’s essential character and personhood. Consequently, the Name of Jesus and the person of Jesus Christ are inseparably linked. His Name and His power, authority, and personhood are one and the same because the same embodies who He is.
When you call on the Name of the Lord, you will be saved
Therefore, when you call on the Name of the Lord Jesus as Saviour (that is, as One raised from the dead by God – Romans 10:9), you will indeed be saved (Acts 4:12). Therefore, this confident dependency on Christ is based on the fact that He lives. And also that God gave us the Name of Jesus for our salvation. For Jesus came to earth so that each of us can have the opportunity to be saved.
This, therefore, means that a resurrected Christ is the One who can save. And to be real, dead people cannot save. Consequently, a dead Jesus cannot save!
Because Jesus is alive, He is seated on the right side of the Father in heaven. And this is the place where He reigns from.
Calling on Jesus’ Name
All in all, calling on Jesus’ Name is more than an invoking of His Name. It is an appeal for deliverance, actually a prayer for deliverance. And Jesus will save you and me from the bondage that has held us, especially the bondage of sin.
Prayer/Blessing
Lord, You are the Saviour of the world! You are my Saviour. Therefore I place my heart and my life in Your Lordship. I do this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Jesus, You are Lord and Saviour! I, therefore, confess that I am a sinner who is separated from you. Please receive my apology: I am truly sorry and would like to turn away from my sinful past to you. Forgive me of my sins and keep me away from temptation and sin. I believe that your only Son, Jesus Christ, died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, and is alive.
Jesus, please come into my life and become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey you, and to do your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
Therefore, call on the Name of the Lord, and you will be saved.
