”Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,
Romans 8:1New International Version (NIV)
Romans 8:1 Devotional (Daily Bible Verse)
No Condemnation for Christians
In Romans 8:1, Paul states, “There is no condemnation for Christians because they are in Christ“. That is, if you are in Christ, then you have been set free from the law of sin and death. You have attained this freedom by the work of the Holy Spirit freeing you, through the Father sending His Son to redeem you.
Paul, in other words, is making reference to the doctrine of ‘union in Christ’, which he had explained in Romans 6:1-11. Therefore, if Jesus died and was raised for you, then you have died and have been risen too. So that, everything that happened to Jesus, has happened to you.
According to Romans 6:23, “the wages of sin is death”. But remember, ‘you have been set free from the law of sin and death’.
Therefore, the phrase ‘no condemnation’ means that your sentence has been permanently commuted (cut) because Jesus served that sentence on your behalf. The Greek word translated as “no”, is actually a strong no. And that is why when you are in Christ, you are not under the sentence of the law.
Prayer
Lord, I thank You for I am in Christ, and therefore not condemned. His perfect work on the Cross made me attain this status.
I, therefore, pray that your Spirit may strengthen me to live a pleasing life before you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Prayer to Receive and Believe in Jesus Christ
Father in heaven, I humble myself before You. My prayer is that I may be among those who are in Jesus Christ and therefore not under condemnation.
Honestly, I don’t want to be under condemnation. Therefore, I confess that I am a sinner who is separated from You. I am truly sorry and would like to turn away from my sinful past to you.
Please forgive me of my sins and keep me away from temptation and sin. I believe that your only Son, Jesus Christ, died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, and is alive.
Jesus, I invite You to come into my life and become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
