All the nations may walk in the name of their gods, but we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.

Micah 4:5New International Version (NIV)

Micah 4:5 Devotional

Walk in the Name of the Lord

Micah 4:5 reveals that Israel will walk in the Name of the Lord in the last days. And I have to admit, “you will walk in the Name of the Lord” sounds better than “you will never walk alone” – the latter being Liverpool’s slogan.

Additionally, in the present day, the Church is Israel. Therefore, Micah prophesied that Christians will choose and commit to walking in the Name of the Lord.

Context

In Micah 4:1-2, God promised to establish the mountain of His temple in the last days as the highest of the mountains then. Consequently, because of its height (exaltedness), people will stream to God’s mountain.

People will therefore encourage each other to go to God’s mountain so that they can be taught God’s ways. Then they will walk in His paths because God’s law will go out from His mountain.

Additionally, Micah, in Micah 4:3a, prophesied that God will “judge between many peoples and He will settle disputes between strong nations. Therefore, the nations will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks” (3b). And “no nation will take up a sword against another nation, nor will they train for war anymore” (3c).

Consequently, “everyone will sit under their own vine and under their own fig tree, and no one will make them afraid”. And this is what the Lord conveyed to the prophet Micah (Micah 4:4).

Millenium

Therefore, Micah 4 is clearly speaking about the millennium, when people will enjoy great peace. And God’s people will walk in His Name forever and ever. That is behave or conduct themselves in God’s ways/paths – live according to God’s ways/paths.

Consequently, verse 5 foretells that God’s people will be totally dedicated, dependent, and faithful in serving Jesus. Remember, during the Millenium, Jesus Christ will be ruling this earth, and we will rule with Him.

Implication

Therefore, as a Christian, you have to continue walking in the Name of the Lord God Jehovah – this is if you haven’t started. While those around you may walk (swear) by their gods, and even manifest “blessings”, you have to stay committed to God and His ways. You don’t have to do as they do.

This is because there should be a clear distinction between Israel and the other nations (Revelation 4:4). And the distinction is made possible through Christian commitment – the rest of the unsaved world may continue to walk in the name of their false gods, but God’s people will walk in the Name of the Lord our God for ever and ever.

Prayer

Lord, I choose to walk in Your Name forever from today. Please help me with this. Help me persevere and walk in Your Name forever.

I pray this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Blessing

May you be encouraged to resolve to walk in the Name of the Lord forever. Amen.
