And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

Romans 8:11 Devotional (Daily Bible Verse)

Because of His Spirit who lives in you

In Romans 8:11, Paul stated, “God would give life to your mortal body ‘because of His Spirit who lives in you‘”. Therefore, when God’s Spirit dwells in you, He will give you life.

Then in Ephesians 1:13a, Paul wrote, “You also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation.” And in Ephesians 1:13b, he added, “When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.”

Essentially, you received Christ when you heard the gospel. And you received the Holy Spirit when you believed the gospel you heard. Because faith (belief) comes by hearing the gospel (Romans 10:17).

Romans 7:1-6

Moreover, in Romans 7:1-6, Paul argued that “You are dead to the law through the death of Jesus Christ”, who died for your ungodliness (Romans 5:6), “so that you can serve in the way of the Spirit”. Because when you received Christ, you died to the law, which can only have authority over you when you have not received Christ into your life.

Romans 8:1-10

You are, therefore, not under condemnation because, through Christ, the law of the Spirit set you free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:1-2). Because the law condemned you when you were alive to it. But now that you are dead to it, courtesy of Christ, it cannot condemn you.

Jesus did what the law could not do (Romans 8:3-4). He made it possible for the Spirit to live in you, thus, placing you in the realm of the Spirit (Romans 8:9). And in Him, and He in you, the Spirit gives you life because of righteousness (Romans 8:10).

The Spirit gives you life

God’s righteousness in your life through Christ enables His Spirit to give you life. Because “the Spirit enables you to put to death the misdeeds of the body”, thus, “enabling you to live” (Romans 8:13b).

Prayer/Blessing

Lord God, I thank you for your faithfulness. You promised the Holy Spirit and You fulfilled the same in my life.

May I, therefore, live the life that Your Spirit gives to my mortal body fully. And may Your Spirit lead me.

This is my humble prayer of faith in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
